Thank You, Dolly Parton!

Artist Gave $1 Million to support Moderna Vaccine Research

Ms. Parton entered Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2013 after a car accident. Dr. Naji Abumrad, a professor of surgery took care of her. The doctor wasn’t aware of her singing, but they soon realized that he was born a poor child in the mountains of Lebanon at the same time she was a poor child in the mountains of Tennessee. They formed a bond.

Over the years they’ve kept in touch. When covid-19 appeared, she donated the million bucks to Vanderbilt in Dr. Abumrad’s name.

The post is short today because I am recovering from periodontal surgery. Yes, it hurt, but they partially anesthetized me and provided some serious painkillers to go home with.

I want to thank all of you who sent good wishes and gifts. I’ll pass half of them on to Dolly the next time she and I meet for one of our dinners.

I will join the legions urging her to rename her hit song “Joline” to “Vaccine.” Also, Dolly once was visited by a Messenger from God.” Time to write a song about “Messenger RNA.” I’ll forgo royalties if she lets me sing backup.

Until tomorrow, peace, love, and understanding.
